Art has been my passion from early childhood. I have a BS in Art, and have taken many graduate courses in Art that were of interest to me.. In my 20s I taught art in elementary, junior high, and senior high schools. I stopped teaching to have children and follow my ex-husband's military career. During that time, I did not stop making art. I drew and created fiber art works.
For 22 years I had a wallpaper hanging business here in Northern Virginia which gave me flexibility to be available for my sons, and time to create personal and commissioned art. I’ve exhibited locally, nationally and internationally, and had my work included in 4 books. In 2010 I was hired to teach high school art and did so until I retired in 2015.
I started at SBS in early 2016 because I liked Danny Gregory's and Koosje Koene’s styles of drawing, and wanted to record my life and surroundings. Also, I loved the idea of having my drawings in a book, a sketchbook. The first course I took was Storytelling and I went on to take most of the others they offered. When we were asked to stay at home in March 2020 due to Covid, I was excited to spend whole uninterrupted days in my studio making art but when I joined Spark I realized I had a need for a likeminded community.
I have enjoyed exploring so many mediums, styles, and subjects I would not have explored on my own. I am so thankful to Natasha and Tonya for setting up this new art coop and look forward to sharing my love of art with you.
