I took inspiration from Ingrid’s sun and flowering tree. We are in Colorado currently and there are many plum trees in bloom. In my research I discovered that the plum tree in Japan represents courage and bravery in the face of difficulties as the blossoms appear in all their glory despite the cold snowy winter (we woke up to a dusting of snow this morning!). On one of my morning walks here I was greeted by a lovely little Spotted Towhee so I included him in my piece as well as the Rocky Mountains in the distance. Done in watercolor on hot press paper.

Inspired by the tulips and the lady in the previous artwork. The magnolia tree in Dutch is commonly called the tulip tree. This is the short period of time they are in flower. Yellow tulips and the returning geese are announcing Easter. The sun has returned in my piece, although it is partially obscured by the shadow of the moon as I was able to witness last weekend.The star shaped flowers of the Forsythia are glimpses of good things to come. I used ink and watercolors. The inks went running unexpectedly, life just isn’t perfect. There is light and shadow, straight lines and smudges. You can only try to follow the line.

I was inspired by the tulips and the bluejay in Sharon Yoker's drawing. I decided to continue with tulips, use a different little bird, and add a woman " of a certain age" who is enjoying the flowers' fragrance. Done with graphite, fine-liner black and grey pens, and Inktense pan colours.

Saw Sharon Schulz' drawing this morning that was spring inspired and for me spring always has lots of bird activity. I will sit at my kitchen table and watch them at the feeder. One bird that kinda gets a bad rap are the bluejays. I like them because they are loud and let you know they are HERE! And being spring, of course had to have a few flowers!!

I took inspiration from the colors that Flory used for her flower and since it was the first day of spring this week, I did some similar color iris flowers. My source of the flowers is from a picture I took last year as it is too early for mine to bloom yet and it is still cold and some snow fell here again overnight. I added a visiting rabbit that is admiring the iris flowers and debating when to jump down the rabbit hole to avoid the years stress. I used watercolor, colored pencils, fine liners, and graphite.

Cath’s exquisite page reminded me of childhood explorations in the woods of suburban Maryland. I already loved nature and spent many hours observing and listening (and catching poison ivy). I knew when the mayflowers and violets bloomed and where the birds nested. Fast forward to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I moved in 1972. I’m still a nature lover and observer. California’s wealth of flora and fauna provides me with great pleasure, especially the fresh grasses and native wildflowers in springtime. “California Spring” features a California Poppy and a blue lupine over a field of new grass. In 1868, John Muir described California’s Central Valley as "splashed with ripples in flower gems," referring to the vast fields of wildflowers, including poppies and lupines. Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve in Los Angeles County comprises a small remnant of what Muir described. I used Procreate to realize my own vision.

Inspired by the beautiful colour scheme, background line work and gorgeous blossom, positioned just so, in @Sharmyn Crawford ’s piece. For me this is about childhood memories and fancy, combined with adult experiences and how they both mesh together. I just loved fairy stories when I was young and was convinced that I could see fairies and talk to them and that they were everywhere in nature. As a young adult I travelled to Japan and loved the reverence for nature and how the motifs of blossoms and flowers were woven into daily life. It was also my first experience of seeing snow there, and it was a truly magical experience to hold a fully formed snow flake on my fingertip. The delicacy, magic and beauty that surrounded me, both as child and adult, is something I try to remember.

Here is my addition to Inspire the Line. Following Christina’s bird on a branch, I attempted to continue the line of the branch for my page. I then brought in some of the colors from the original postings…and the black dog and a bird.

Here is my addition to Inspire the line. I decided to draw a blue jay. Watercolor paper, a 1900 Cosmo magazine page pvc’d to it. Then, rice paper with acrylic design on it from one of Corrine’s mixed media classes, pvc’d to the old page. Then water colored a blue jay first, then went over the watercolor with a black Vision pen. Last details of white with a Posca pen. Voila!!!

I’ve used Linda Konya’s sunny, blossom blessed, birdy scene to inspire another avian scenario. I used the right hand edge of Linda’s artwork to give me ideas as to how to proceed. The trees there made me think of the body of a bird. The trick then was to find a set of bird images that fitted the form I was seeing. I chose the diminutive Cuban Tody. This visual trick was one used by the Surrealists. They called it Exquisite Corpse. It’s a great way of building a collaborative visual. Media used: highlighter pens, Luminance coloured pencils, Uni-ball black pen, white gelly roll pen.
